5 Fall Beers You Need to Try Before Halloween (2025 Edition)

Fall is officially here. The weather is cooling down, which means that here in Texas, the days are 96 degrees instead of 102. The leaves are falling off the trees from sunburn, and the whole world smells like cinnamon and pumpkin spice.

This is a beautiful time of year, but one of the best things about this season is the brew. Over here at iDRINKBREW, we’re celebrating beer, coffee, and the culture that comes with it. The beer season is great, and with the taste of Oktoberfest at the tip of my tongue, I want to share a list of five fall beers we all need to try before Halloween.

 1. Pumpkin King – Southern Tier Pumking (Imperial Pumpkin Ale)

When it comes to pumpkin beers, this one wears the crown. Southern Tier’s Pumking is bold, rich, and unapologetically pumpkin-forward. It smells like pumpkin pie fresh from the oven, with hints of vanilla, graham cracker, and cinnamon.

Tasting notes: Vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, graham cracker.
Best with: Pumpkin pie, s’mores, or even a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.

 2. Oktober Classic – Paulaner Oktoberfest Märzen

If fall had a signature beer style, it’s Oktoberfest Märzen. Paulaner delivers one of the most iconic versions smooth, malty, and endlessly drinkable. It’s the kind of beer that makes you want to grab a pretzel the size of your head and sing along to a beer hall chant.

Tasting notes: Toasted bread, light caramel, clean finish.
Perfect for: Backyard cookouts, Oktoberfest parties, or watching football.

 3. The Porter – Founders Porter

Honestly, what’s a list about fall beers without the mention of Founders. Not every fall beer has to scream “pumpkin.” Sometimes, the best choice is a rich, roasty porter. Founders makes a classic chocolatey, smooth, and slightly sweet. This is your go-to beer when the evenings start getting crisp and you just want to chill with music or a movie.

Tasting notes: Chocolate, caramel, roasted coffee.
Best with: A jazz playlist, a hoodie, and maybe some dark chocolate.

 4. Local Love – Texas Seasonal Specials

Here in Texas, fall is short but of course the breweries make it count. Keep an eye out for seasonal releases like:

 5. Spooky Sip – Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin

Seattle’s Elysian Brewing is known for their pumpkin game, and Night Owl is one of the most balanced pumpkin ales out there. It’s spicy but not over-the-top, smooth but still lively. It’s actually one of my favorite fall beer cans and it’s the perfect beer for a Halloween movie marathon or handing out candy.

Tasting notes: Pumpkin, light spice, toasty malt.
Pairs with: Horror flicks, haunted houses, and Reese’s peanut butter cups.
Fun idea: Host a Halloween “pumpkin beer tasting night” and crown your favorite.

 Final Sip

Fall beer season doesn’t last long and neither do these brews. From pumpkin spice legends like Pumking to crisp Oktoberfest lagers and cozy porters, 2025 has plenty of flavors worth chasing down before the season flips to winter stouts.

And don’t forget:

Cheers to seasonal sips and we’ll drink to that!
