78-0 Hazy IPA: Tina Charles Turns an Undefeated Season Into a Beer
Former WNBA MVP and three-time Olympic gold medalist Tina Charles is stepping into craft beer with the launch of 78 Brewing Co. Her first release, 78-0 Hazy IPA, celebrates UConn’s historic 78-0 run during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
The beer was brewed with Connecticut’s East Rock Brewing Company and features Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops. It comes in at 6.5% ABV and is rolling out to select retailers and sports venues across Connecticut.
But this launch is about more than beer. A portion of proceeds will support current UConn student-athletes, and Charles has also said she’ll share revenue with teammates from those championship teams.
With Connecticut basketball fans facing the possibility of the Connecticut Sun leaving the state, the beer also serves as a tribute to one of the greatest eras in UConn basketball history.
